Gamification

Points, ranks, badges and automatic group promotions.

Gamification ships with the core license. It rewards activity across the forum and the blog without any of the other modules knowing it exists.

Points and rules#

Gamification > Rules decides what earns points: starting a topic, replying, receiving a reaction, publishing a post, and so on. Each rule carries a value and can be turned off.

Points are the raw number. Everything else is built on top of them.

Ranks#

Gamification > Ranks turns points into a title shown next to a member's name. A rank has a name, a threshold and an image, and members move up automatically as they earn.

Badges#

Gamification > Badges awards a badge for a milestone: a first topic, a hundred replies, a year of membership. Badges can also be granted by hand.

Promotions#

Gamification > Promotions is the interesting one: it moves a member into a different member group when they cross a threshold. That means a member who earns their way in gets more permission automatically, with no moderator doing paperwork.

Because a promotion is just a group change, everything else in the platform follows, including paywall rules and module permissions.

Notifications#

Every reward notifies the member: a badge, a rank, a promotion. That is the point of the module, and turning the notifications off makes the rest of it invisible.

Settings#

Gamification > Settings covers whether points and ranks are shown publicly, where they appear, and how the leaderboard is calculated.
