Courses

The LMS module: sections and lessons, enrolments, progress, quizzes, certificates and instructors.

LMS is a paid module. It adds courses to a community that already has members, groups and notifications, so a student is a member and not a second account.

Courses and curriculum#

A course has a category, a description, a cover and a curriculum made of sections, each holding lessons. A lesson is a video from YouTube or Vimeo, an uploaded video, or text, and it can carry downloadable resources.

LMS > Courses is the list; the curriculum is edited inside a course.

Enrolments#

Four ways in:

  • free, when the course has no price;
  • paid, through the payments module and whichever gateway you installed;
  • granted by an administrator from LMS > Enrolments;
  • included in a membership, when Members Plus is installed.

The player#

The player records progress per lesson and unlocks the next one according to your drip settings. Each lesson can host its own questions, answered by the instructor or by other students.

Quizzes and exams#

Quizzes belong to a course. Standalone exams live on their own and can be sold separately. Both support multiple attempts, a passing score and grading.

Certificates#

A certificate is generated from a template you edit in the panel: text, colours and layout. Each certificate carries a code, and a public page verifies that code, so an employer can check it without an account.

Instructors#

A member becomes an instructor by applying and being approved, or by being promoted directly by an administrator. Instructors work from the front end, inside their account area, not from a separate panel.

Revenue share is a global percentage with a per-instructor override. Earnings are recorded per sale, and an instructor requests a payout that an administrator approves and records by hand.

Settings#

LMS > Settings covers the currency, the tax percentage, the revenue share, the catalogue layout and whether reviews are open.
